Volunteer

Volunteers helped make the vision of Calvin Community a reality in 1965, and they continue to assist us in planning our future and enhancing the quality of life at Calvin.

Every day, volunteers support our residents, staff and programming. Our volunteers provide knowledge and skills that help our Community fulfill the needs and desires of our residents. In return, our volunteers are rewarded with lessons and friendships that can only come from the experience of serving our residents.

Who volunteers?

We have over 200 volunteers; they come from all walks of life. The diversity of their ages and experiences adds greatly to Calvin Community.

Many people grow into a volunteer role after visiting friend or relative at Calvin. Others come from churches, colleges and civic organizations. Even our Calvin residents volunteer.

What do volunteers do?

Volunteers complete assignments across our Community. Our need for volunteers is diverse and ongoing. Some jobs of current volunteers include:

• pet therapists
• religious service leaders
• assistants for resident activities
• one-to-one visitors with residents
• hymn sing leaders
• current events readers
• social event hosts 
• musicians
• menders
• performers
• readers
• gardeners
• clerical work
• mail delivery
• men's group leaders
• board members

Calvin Community Auxiliary 

Calvin Community offers residents and non-residents the opportunity to become a part of the Calvin Community Auxiliary as a volunteer member. Formed in 1964, its purpose is to serve residents and form friendships between residents, staff and volunteers while they are involved in such activities as bingo, reading groups, birthday parties, sewing groups, men’s group gathering, and general meetings, etc.
